Installed is not the same as working
Most SolarWinds estates we see were set up well once, then left to grow. Thousands of alerts nobody reads, polling engines at their limits, a database that takes minutes to load a dashboard and licences that no longer match what is being monitored. The tool still costs the same, but the team has stopped trusting it.
Our consultants have been working with SolarWinds for over 20 years, from the early Orion NPM days to the current SolarWinds Platform. We know where estates usually go wrong and how to put them right.
What the audit covers
- Capacity. Polling engines, element counts, database size and growth, and whether the design will cope with the next two years.
- Performance. Slow web consoles, polling gaps, SQL health, retention settings and the jobs that drag everything down.
- Security. Patch levels, service accounts and stored credentials, SNMP and WMI configuration, access control and how the platform is exposed to the network. A monitoring server that holds keys to every device deserves the same care as a domain controller.
- Alerting and monitoring quality. Fewer, better alerts that reach the right people, with dashboards and reports the team and management actually use.
- Licence usage. What you own, what you use and what you are paying for that sits idle, with clear options before your next renewal, including whether a move to subscription licensing makes sense.
- Roadmap. A prioritised plan covering upgrades, modules, integrations and what to retire.
The art of the possible
Once the basics are sound, we look at what else the platform can do for you. That might be automated ticketing into your PSA, configuration backups and compliance checks, capacity forecasting, application and server monitoring, or reporting that shows the board how the network is really performing. We focus on what will give you a better return on the product you already pay for.
Independent advice
We don't resell SolarWinds or take referral fees. If a module isn't worth it for you, we will say so.
How it works
Most clients start with a fixed-price audit and a written report with prioritised recommendations. From there we can make the changes ourselves, work alongside your team or MSP, or help you plan an upgrade or migration. MSPs running SolarWinds for their clients can combine it with our MSP consultancy.
