Signs a programme needs recovery
- The go-live date has moved more than once and nobody believes the current one.
- Status reports are green, but the people doing the work say otherwise.
- Technical blockers get escalated rather than solved.
- The supplier and the internal team disagree about what was agreed.
- The budget has been extended without a clear view of what the extra money buys.
If two or more of those sound familiar, the programme probably needs a reset rather than more effort.
How we recover a programme
- Independent assessment. Two to three weeks reviewing the plan, the technical design, the contracts and the team. We talk to the people doing the work, not just the people reporting on it.
- An honest reset. A revised plan with realistic dates and costs, the options for scope and the risks of each. Presented to the board in plain English.
- Delivery leadership. We lead the programme through to completion, or support your programme manager if the leadership is sound and the problem lies elsewhere.
- Clean handover. Documentation, support arrangements and lessons learned, so the next programme starts better.
Technical depth, not just project management
Many stalled IT programmes stall on a technical problem that the project team can't evaluate. Our consultants bring hands-on platform experience, so blockers get understood and resolved rather than passed around. Areas we've delivered in include:
- Azure migrations and landing zones, including programmes that had stalled.
- VMware migrations, upgrades and licensing changes.
- Microsoft 365 tenant migrations, Intune rollouts and security hardening.
- SolarWinds network monitoring rebuilds.
- PSA and RMM rollouts for managed service providers.
A recent example
A leading healthcare provider's major Azure programme had stalled and the project team had lost momentum. We led the project management team for nine months. Deep Azure knowledge meant technical blockers were understood and resolved, not just escalated, and the programme was brought back on track and delivered.
