Why it matters
Most IT leaders were promoted because they were good engineers. Nobody taught them how to run a team, manage a budget or present to a board. The result is capable people stretched thin, decisions pushed upwards and good engineers leaving because nobody is developing them.
We've led IT teams and MSP service desks ourselves. We help your people build the leadership skills that make a team self-sufficient, so you rely less on outside help over time, including ours.
Courses
Practical sessions for IT managers and team leads, delivered in-house to your team. Typical topics:
- Moving from engineer to manager: delegation, priorities and saying no.
- Running one-to-ones, setting objectives and giving feedback.
- Budgets, business cases and presenting IT to a board.
- Managing suppliers and MSPs.
- Incident leadership and communicating during an outage.
Coaching
One-to-one coaching for new or stretched IT leaders. Regular sessions focused on the real situations they face that month, from a difficult supplier to a restructure or a board paper.
Mentoring
Ongoing mentoring for engineers and platform teams growing into bigger roles. Mentees get a senior practitioner to learn from, with honest advice on technical direction, career progression and how to get things done in the business.
Built into our engagements
Developing your team is part of how we work, not an add-on. As interim IT director at an alt net fibre provider, our consultant mentored and engaged the internal IT and platform team, which then carried the work on under the permanent hire. At an MSP, a skills check across the engineering team shaped where training and support went next.
How it works
Courses are delivered as half or full days for your team. Coaching and mentoring run as a fixed number of sessions over a few months. Development can also be included in a fractional CTO, interim IT director or MSP consultancy engagement.
